New: Mat Pilates!

Starting Tuesday, January 17th Bloom will have mat pilates classes taught by Arielle Bernard.

Classes will be Tuesdays at 7:15pm and Thursdays and 6:45pm

If you’re looking to try it out, Arielle is offering a free class on Saturday, January 14th at 11am.

Here is a brief description of the class:

Group mat classes are an excellent introduction to Joseph Pilates’ system of Contrology that will help you lengthen, strengthen, and tone. By using the resistance of your own body, very few props are needed to strengthen weaknesses, correct muscle asymmetry, increase flexibility, and improve posture. Working from the core, or the “powerhouse”, Pilates students learn how beneficial it can be to direct movements through the center of the body. You will also learn to focus your mind throughout the workout, increasing body awareness. The principles learned in Pilates can be applied to every day activities as well as other workout regiments, and are appropriate for students of any age, body type, or gender!

Make it a dedicated December

It’s that tough time of year, where everything seems more important than your workouts. Your life is much busier, with holiday parties etc., so your workouts can fall off of your calendar.

What should you do?

Compromise.

Definitely go to those parties and gatherings, but don’t make the events about the food. Focus on the company. This will be easier on your health and your waistline. Sure, you can enjoy a cookie here and there, but try not to hunker down on that tray of gingerbread men.

Your workouts? Make them a priority. I know it’s hard to do when there are 8 million things to be done, but think about it this way: They will decrease your stress level when you fit them in, making the holiday season a little less stressful. You’ll also be able to feel less guilt when you reach for a reindeer shaped sugar cookie.

Make it happen!

A Fresh Start

Bloom: A Movement Space has been located at 153 Regent St. in Saratoga Springs for about 7 years. In this time it has inhabited many types of movement classes.

In August of 2011, Bloom was given a fresh start. A chance to blossom into it’s full potential.

I’m excited to begin working on the vision I have for this wonderful space. Bloom is the best kept secret in town, but I don’t want that to be the case. I want everyone in the community to know about the great experiences they have awaiting them in every class the instructors offer.

This blog will be the voice of Bloom. Some posts about the studio, others about fitness and health. I hope to see your comments here as I kick-off Bloom’s fresh start.
